My Why
When I began developing a personal relationship with God through His Son- my LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, I would post brief video clips as I was led. Most of the time it was something that I- in and of myself didn’t want to do, but I’d almost always couple it with a writing passage that provided deeper insight and a clearer picture of why God wanted me to post it. Fast forward to today, I still prefer not to do videos but if there’s anything I’m good at, I’ve always known it to be writing.
As I embark on this journey, I recall a brief yet impactful conversation that I had during my second or third semester of college. While walking back to our dorm I was accompanied by one of my brothers in Christ. I’m such a background player that I was honestly shocked that he even knew who I was. We’d just left an amazing Monday night group bible study and after a little small chat he asked, “Why are you always so quiet?” Confused by the question I simply responded, “Because I don’t have anything to say,” and without hesitation he immediately replied, “You should speak up more because you have a lot to say.” I don’t remember anything else we talked about, but I never forgot those words.
Whether he realized it or not, that simple statement left one of the greatest impressions on my life. It would be years later, and I still found myself replaying that conversation in times that I wanted to stay silent, but God was urging me to speak up. It was a catalyst to undo an unintended word curse which had been spoken over my life at a young age leaving me paralyzed with fear. By God’s grace and revelation, He has broken its hold on my life, and I have come out of agreement with that curse. Now I boldly speak up as the Holy Spirit leads and instructs me. After years of silence and playing myself small, I am now following God’s way and fully submitted to the work that He has laid before me because I know now more than ever that as one of His Chosen Scribes- I absolutely “have a lot to say.”
